A free two-oscillator virtual analog synth for Windows and Linux with everything on one screen and no menu diving.

Charlatan is a virtual analog synth focused on solid basic sounds and a layout you can learn in a few minutes: two oscillators, one filter, two envelopes and an LFO on a single panel. Version 3 was rebuilt for VST3 and CLAP and added Linux support alongside Windows. It is closed-source freeware and still actively maintained, with 3.3.2 released in November 2025.
